Ars, Cuffaro: "The irresponsible behavior of some deputies. We are witnessing anti-politics."

A harsh attack on some members of the majority party came from Totò Cuffaro, national secretary of the Christian Democrats, following the rejection of the bill on land reclamation consortia in the Sicilian Regional Assembly. The former president of the Sicilian Region publicly denounced what he called "irresponsible conduct" by members of Forza Italia, Fratelli d'Italia, and MPA, accusing them of demanding changes in committee and then scuttled the bill in the Chamber.
"Yesterday we witnessed irresponsible behavior," Cuffaro declared. "Demanding and obtaining changes to the bill, only to then reject it, has nothing to do with politics: it's about personal resentment and spite. We're witnessing anti-politics. Our ancient Parliament is becoming 'ugly and impossible.'"
"A loss for farmers and workers"Cuffaro also spares no criticism of the opposition, which—according to the centrist leader—is guilty of exploiting divisions within the majority to achieve a "fleeting political gain," at the expense of already struggling sectors. "If I were in opposition, I wouldn't have exploited the discontent within the majority for an apparent victory, making farmers, already hard-pressed by the water crisis, and consortium workers pay the price, who now risk delays in paying their salaries or even losing their jobs."
Appeal to common sense and responsibilityIn his speech, Cuffaro called for a change of pace and called for unity and responsibility from both the majority and the opposition: "The hope is that common sense will prevail and good politics will prevail. Rebellious majority MPs will allow the coalition's interests and the well-being of Sicilians to prevail. The opposition, on the other hand, should exercise its institutional role constructively, pursuing the common good rather than temporary and harmful gains."
Finally, the DC leader renews his confidence in the President of the Region: "We reiterate our loyalty to Schifani and invite him to continue his work with his usual passion and determination, despite the current difficulties."
